A Word from Jack Clay:

It is difficult to talk about yourself. Franklin P. Jones said, "One advantage of talking about yourself is that you know at least somebody's listening." As a prospective client or fellow attorney, you probably want to know a little more about me in order to call me for help, assess my skills and experience, or consider referring me a case. So, here goes.

I specialize in personal injury and workers' compensation cases. My law firm takes-on cases throughout Atlanta and the West Georgia area. I handle serious injury and wrongful death cases, including motor vehicle accident cases, workers’ compensation claims, and other catastrophic personal injury matters. I also handle a limited number of other special matters. While my heart lies in being in the courtroom, the overwhelming majority of cases in my practice and the civil system are settled without jury trials or workers' compensation hearings.

I am invested in our community. I have practicing law in Douglasville since 2001. During this time, I have seen our area grow tremendously. In fact, I started practicing law in the same law building where I currently am located. I make my home and raise my family here.

A Few Highlights:

I was fortunate to be named a Rising Star in SuperLawyers Magazine & Atlanta Magazine. Only the top 2.5% of lawyers under 40 years of age are named SuperLawyers Rising Stars after a rigorous nomination and selection process.

I was chosen to speak and teach Continuing Legal Education at the 2008 Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation Annual Education Seminar which was attended by over a thousand attendees, including attorneys, judges, insurance adjustors, and vendors.

I write the Georgia Law Blog (www.georgialawblog.com), which covers issues relating to personal injury, workers’ compensation, trial work, operating a law office, local events, and law firm technology. My Blog is read by the legal community and the public.

I have handled in excess of 1,000 cases since graduating from law school in 1999. I have handled cases in a wide variety of areas of law before specializing in personal injury and workers’ compensation, including criminal defense, corporate law, business / trust litigation, family law, landlord / tenant issues, contract negotiation, real property damage cases, and have written wills and trusts.

I have handled over 50 workers’ compensation trials and over 30 jury trials. I have litigated cases in twenty of Georgia’s counties, including federal court in the Northern District of Georgia.

I consider myself to be a self-starter. I started my own law practice in 2000, after a short stint working at large insurance defense law firm and a large corporation.

I attended U.C.L.A. and graduated near the top of my class with a degree in Political Science. I then attended Southwestern Law School, graduating in the top 15% of my class and earning the highest grades in two of my courses: Criminal Procedure and Corporations.

I served as an editor of the Southwestern Journal of Law & Trade in the Americas. I received several scholarships and was named the Tom Bradley Scholar in law school.

I served as a firefighter in my small hometown during the later years of college where, among other duties, I cared for people first-hand that were injured in automobile accidents.

I am married to the former Cheryl Lynn Cox. We have one son, Jacob.

My Community Affiliations:

I am a Board Member of the Georgia Legal Foundation, which monitors and becomes involved in appellate cases of great importance to injured workers throughout Georgia.

I am a graduate of Leadership Douglas County

I served for several years as Board Member and Legal Advisor to S.H.A.R.E. House, a community battered women’s shelter.

Currently, I am a member of the American Bar Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers’ Association, and the Douglas County Bar Association where I have served as the Newsletter Editor.

I served as Legal Advisor to the Committee to Elect Beau McClain Douglas County Superior Court Judge. Judge McClain was elected in 2008 after beating two candidates a relatively rare contested race of an open Superior Court seat.

I attend church where I serve as a legal advisor and as a member of the Building Purchase Committee. I am also a member of the Christian Trial Lawyers’ Association.
